Travel to Eleuthera is usually done by flying into one of three airports located North, North Central and South Eleuthera. Available carriers for Eleuthera flights can be found below.

Two Ways to Fly to Eleuthera

The first, and usually the most cost effective method, is to fly to the newly expanded and renovated Nassau Airport (NAS). Once there, make a separate connection with one of the three airlines that provide regular service to Eleuthera: Southern Air, Bahamasair and Pineapple Air. You can make reservations and see the schedules for these carriers on their web sites listed below. When going through Customs in Nassau, you can use the “Family Island Transit / Family Island Connections” line for faster service.

The second option is to book direct with a single carrier, such as American Airlines, which typically means flying via Miami (MIA) or Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) airports. There are charters as well; many operating out of Ft. Lauderdale.

Once You Arrive At The Airport

Getting around Eleuthera is usually accomplished via car rentals. Do not forget to drive on the left side of the road! The main highway that travels from one end of Eleuthera to the other is called Queen's Highway; a winding two lane road in reasonable condition with a speed limit of 45 MPH. Expect some rough spots when traveling in low lying areas due to the harsh environments. Be very cautious on your first visit until you become familiar with road conditions - don't ruin your vacation! Side roads range from paved to “four wheel only” conditions. Expect the unexpected.

Rental vehicles can be rented at an Eleuthera airport and rental companies are supposed to be licensed by the government. Most rental cars age average 10+ years and car rental agreements are informal -- ask for a receipt. Gasoline prices are usually double U.S. rates. Rental rates vary from $50 - $75 per day with weekly rental rate discounts available.

If you are headed to Harbour Island from North Eleuthera, you may want to rent a golf cart in advance to get around the island once you arrive at the Harbour Island's Government Boat Dock. For international flights, airlines ask that all passengers check in two hours before their flight as the flight can arrive early or close early -- do not risk losing your seat. North Eleuthera airport is now upgraded with a security checkpoint.

North Eleuthera Airport Departures & Arrivals (ELH)

North Eleuthera Airport (ELH / MYEH) is located at approximately N25.48° latitude and W76.68° longitude. There is a small snack shop on the premises along with a gift shop, several restaurants and a bar across the street. This is the busiest airport of the three. North Eleuthera airport has the most airline service from commercial airlines, air charter services and private airplanes. Much of the service has to do with vacation travel to neighboring Harbour Island which can be reached by a ten minute taxi ride followed by a ten minute water taxi ride.  

Governor's Harbour Eleuthera Airport Departures & Arrivals (GHB)

Governor's Harbour Eleuthera Airport (GHB / MYEM) is located at approximately N25.28° latitude and W76.33° longitude. There is a small snack shop at the airport and a nearby bar and liquor store. Governor's Harbour airport is approximately 7.8 miles north of Governor's Harbour and 12.3 miles south of Alice Town and Hatchet Bay.  

Rock Sound Eleuthera Airport Departures & Arrivals (RSD)

Rock Sound Eleuthera Airport (RSD / MYER) is located at approximately N24.89° latitude and W76.17° longitude. Rock Sound Airport is just north of Rock Sound and approximately 6.3 miles south of Tarpum Bay.
